Jordan's king holds talks with Belgian PM on ties, Middle East issues

Jordan's King Abdullah II and Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel, on Monday, discussed ways of cementing ties between Jordan and Belgium as well as developments in the Middle East and the world, Petra reported.
King Abdullah and Michel underlined the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation in political, military and security fields.
Also, they discussed prospects for joint cooperation to fight terrorism and ward off the threat terrorist organizations pose to the security and stability of the region.
The king stressed Jordan's firm stance in combating terrorism within a comprehensive strategy, with the participation of all parties concerned, because this menace is a threat to peace, security and stability in the region and the world.
The meeting discussed clarifying the true image of Islam, and rejecting Islamo-phobia, as well as protecting Muslim communities in Europe, who serve as a main component of communities they live in.
They tackled the growing number of foreign fighters who join terrorist organizations and ways to address this issue because it would lead to further expansion of terrorism across the world.
King Abdullah and the Belgian prime minister discussed efforts to achieve peace between Palestinians and Israelis, and move forward in the peace process.
The talks touched on developments in Syria with two sides stressing the need to bring about a political solution to the crisis.
They also discussed Iraq and the Iraqi government's efforts in promoting security and stability.
The Belgian prime minister said his country is keen to enhance cooperation with Jordan and commended King Abdullah II's efforts in addressing challenges facing the Middle East.
