Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affiars Nasser Judeh on Sunday held talks in Geneva with his US counterpart John Kerry on the latest developments in Syria and efforts to reiterate the ceasefire there.
The two officials underlined the importance of providing guarantees to humanitarian aid and supporting a political solution to the Syrian crisis. They also said they were keen to maintain cooperation and consultations between Jordan and the US to achieve those goals.
Judeh reiterated Jordan's constant position the Kingdom had adopted since the start of the Syrian conflict, supporting a political solution that guarantees Syria's security, safety and territorial integrity and inclusive of all components of the Syrian people.
On Palestine, Judeh underlined the importance of relaunching serious and effective talks within a set timeframe. Such talks, he added, must lead to the two-state solution, entailing the establishment of a viable and independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Judeh and Kerry also discussed the situation in Iraq, where they backed finding a political solution with the participation of all segments of the Iraqi society.
Kerry, on his part, valued the key role played by His Majesty King Abdullah II, and his efforts to boost security and stability in the Middle East and the world.
