Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, Nasser Judeh, and his Maltese counterpart, George Villa, on Monday, discussed bilateral ties and the latest developments in the region.
At the meeting, both sides agreed to step up cooperation in the economic, trade and cultural fields as well as efforts to counter terrorism within a comprehensive approach.
On Syria, both officials stressed the importance of the Geneva talks expected to take place on Wednesday.
Judeh echoed Jordan's stance, under His Majesty King Abdullah II leadership, which calls for a political solution that ensures Syria's security with the participation of all components of Syrian national fabric.
He emphasized in this regard the importance of working to achieve this political solution according to UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and the Geneva 1 Resolutions.
Judeh also spoke about efforts aimed at re-launching peace negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state as per the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the international terms of reference as well as the Arab Peace Initiative.
The Maltese official said his country is keen to maintain cooperation with Jordan at all levels. He also expressed appreciation for Jordan's stance in addressing regional affairs and its efforts to bring about peace and security.
