Judges Club emergency General Assembly meeting begins

President of the Judges Club Ahmed el-Zend and Prosecutor General Abdul-Meguid Mahmoud, sacked by President Morsi's decree, initiated Saturday the Judges Club emergency General Assembly meeting on Morsi's constitutional declaration. Zend started the convention by enticing protesters and the Interior Ministry alike to exercise self-restraint and end the ongoing violence. Abdul-Meguid Mahmoud then took the floor and stressed that according to the Judicial Authority law no. 46 of 1972 he is challenging Morsi's decree to replace him before the Court of Cassation, taking full responsibility for the past period as prosecutor general. "I did my job under my conscience's watch and the cases I have overseen against corruption are my proof," Meguid said. He said Morsi's decree breaches the constitution and paves the way for compromising the Judicial Authority. The continued besiege of Egypt's institutions of the ilk will undermine and pose serious threats to justice in Egypt, he said in a statement. Throughout the meeting, abruptly, a group of gun-carrying mob had attempted to break into the convention but were held back by security forces. They were chanting slogans offensive to judges.
