Lebanese Prime Minister Tamam Sallam received a phone call from US Secretary of State John Kerry as they discussed the working plan of the ministerial meeting of International Support Group for Lebanon, at United Nations Headquarters, due in late September.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the US Embassy here said Kerry asserted the US backing for Sallam's efforts to reach a political agreement in Lebanon despite the hard circumstances facing the country.
Kerry and Sallam also probed the necessity of holding the parliamentary and presidential elections as soon as possible according to the Lebanese constitution.
Kerry also reiterated the US commitment to achieving stability and security of Lebanon.
