His Majesty King Abdullah II on Wednesday cautioned that continuing unilateral steps by Israel constitute a roadblock to efforts to establish peace in the region.These steps include continuing with the establishment of settlements, aggression against Islamic and Christian holy sites, and attempts to impose Judaism on the holy city.His Majesty, during a meeting with a delegation of US Senators, pointed out that the two-state solution is the only way to achieve security and stability in the region.The US delegation included Kristen Gillibrand, Lindsey Graham, John Hoeven, Amy Klobuchar and William Cowan.The meeting touched upon a number of issues, including the situation in Syria, efforts to solve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the two-state solution, and means to boost ties between the two countries.His Majesty reiterated the need to find a comprehensive settlement to the situation in Syria to end the bloodshed, preserve its unity, and ensures the safety of the Syrian people. He also spoke of Jordan’s efforts to host Syrian refugees.The US delegation lauded His Majesty’s stand on establishing peace in the region. They also praised the king’s wisdom and leadership in dealing with consequences of the ‘Arab Spring’, and Jordan’s unique model for democratic transformation.Further, the US senators said they appreciated His Majesty’s role in backing efforts to cement security and stability in the Middle East, which is going through unprecedented period
