Teams of Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) continue to distribute aid to Syrian refugee families in northern Jordan and are in Al-Torra area Tuesday near the border with Syria and distributing supplies to help alleviate the suffering, which is compounded by harsh winter weather. Chairman of the field team Fahad Al-Yagoot told KUNA the group distributed 900 food packages and 900 blankets among the families, part of the sixth batch of aid supplies that also include clothing and heaters. This is organized within the society's program approved early into the Syrian crisis two years ago in solidarity with the Syrian people. This humanitarian effort, he noted, shall continue with more campaigns in different areas in Jordan and the work is coordinated with the Jordanian Red Crescent and the Kuwaiti diplomatic mission in the Hashemite kingdom. Along with Al-Yagoot, the KRCS team includes chairman Ahmad Al-Naibari and volunteers Mutleb Al-Enizi, Abdullah Jaber Al-Mutairi, and Abdullah Jumaa. Since the Syrian crisis flared in March 2011, the State of Kuwait sent out teams and supplies to alleviate the suffering of those forced to flee home and homeland in fear for their lives or to escape desperate humanitarian and living conditions. The relief supplies are provided by both state authorities and members of the public and private sector institutions. The relief effort continues 24/7 and the recipients are refugees in Jordan, Turkey, and Lebanon. Official Jordanian data indicate some 340,000 Syrian refugees to date within Jordanian territory, amid forecasts the number would reach 600,000 as the strife continues.
