Russia and the U.S. will not be cooperating in the sphere of antiballistic missile systems, although their collaboration is bringing encouraging fruits in some other areas, Sergei Ivanov, the chief of the Kremlin Administration staff said in an interview published Tuesday by the dailies Rossiyskaya Gazeta, Komsomolskaya Pravda, RBC Daily, and Gazeta.ru. He stressed along with it that every country always promulgates its own interests. “For objective reasons we’re cooperating at the most serious level on nonproliferation of the weapons of mass destruction because both our countries are highly interested in it but as for the antiballistic missiles, the Americans have their own interests and we have our own interests, too,” Ivanov said. “Whatever the personal relations /between country leaders - Itar-Tass/, you cannot get over the fact,” he said adding that he personally had always had normal relations with the Americans occupying the appropriate posts. “But as for the interstate interests, we’re defending our interests and they’re defending theirs and that’s quite a normal thing,” Ivanov said.
