Kurds form local government in North Syrian al-Jazeera region

The Kurds-majority northeastern Jazeera region declared Tuesday a self-rule from Syria and forming of a local government. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that an executive council was formed to run the region's affairs. The council will have a president, two deputies and 22 members representing ministries, the Syrian Observatory disclosed, noting that an interim five-member legislative council will serve as a presidential council. It added the executive council comprises the representatives of the different components of the area, but Kurds make up the majority. The interim council will lead the region for four months, till the organization of parliamentary and presidential elections, the Observatory revealed. Al-Jazeera region is located at the northeastern Hasake Province. Haseke city is officially the provincial capital, but Kurds consider Qamishli to be Al-Jazeera's capital.
