Kuwait calls on international community to resolve Yemen issues

Kuwait called on international organizations to support Yemen's efforts in fighting poverty, and unemployment, and having a better food security in the country. Kuwait's Permanent Delegate to the UN Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghunaim said on Thursday during a UN's session regarding Yemen that it is the international community's responsibility to help the country resolve the food security issue, which is affecting the whole society, especially women and children. Yemen is one of the world's poor countries, where the level of poverty reached 52 percent, affecting 12 millions, Al-Ghunaim said, adding that high levels of unemployment play a role in worsening the problem, mainly among youth. The national Yemeni report handed to the UN explains the troubles and challenges faced by the country which could affect its security and stability, said Al-Ghunaim. The report also included the "national dialogue" decision issued by the Yemeni President to allow all political parties and national organizations to hold talks, aiming to resolve these problems, noted the Ambassador. Al-Ghunaim explained that the report showed how Yemen had developed since its first national report on February 2009, noting the peaceful revolution which occurred in early 2011, leading to signing the GCC initiative in November 2011 aiming to reconcile Yemeni political parties.
