Kuwait celebrates Sheikh Nawaf's anniversary as Crown Prince

The State of Kuwait celebrates on Wednesday seventh anniversary of His Highness the Crown Prince ascending to the second top post. Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the main supporter of HH the Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, is renowned for his modesty and ardent belief that Kuwait, regardless of its small geographic size, will always rise to level of challenges, and its faithful people will remain behind the sagacious leadership. Sheikh Nawaf's seven years of giving dated back to February 20, 2006, when His Highness was sworn in as Heir Apparent at headquarters of the National Assembly, during which members of the Parliament declared allegiance to him unanimously. "I proudly bow to the majesty of this great country and its faithful and generous people under leadership of His Highness the Amir," Sheikh Nawaf, a leader long known for his modesty declared during the ceremonial session. History witnesses that Kuwait, although small in size, has always succeeded in overcoming predicaments and obstacles, no matter how great they may be, thanks to His Almighty and the people standing in a single line behind the subsequent leaderships, His Highness boasted in front of legislators of the nation. HH the Amir issued, on February 7, 2007, an Amiri Order, naming HH Sheikh Nawaf as Heir Apparent, one of the country's most qualified prominent personalities for the ranking position, meeting relevant terms stipulated in the National Constitution and the Constitutional Article 4 which stipulates: Kuwait is a hereditary Emirate, the succession to which shall be in the descendants of the late Mubarak al-Sabah. Sheikh Nawaf is a veteran leader having served for many years in leading posts in various departments, namely the ministries of interior and defense. Marks of his faithful efforts for development of the national security apparatuses remain noticeable till now. On February 21, 1961, His Highness was named Governor of Hawally and continued to serve in the key position till 1978, when he was appointed minister of interior, and later in 1988, Sheikh Nawaf switched to the ministry of defense holding the ministerial post. Following the 1991 liberation of Kuwait, he was named minister of social affairs and labor. In October 1994, HH was chosen to serve as deputy chief of the National Guards, and retained the position till July 2003, when he was re-chosen to hold the interior portfolio. An Amiri Decree was issued at the time naming him as deputy prime minister too. Sheikh Nawaf pursued the service in this post till 2006, when he proclaimed the Heir Apparent. Sheikh Nawaf's profile reveals his special devotion and personal attraction to the security sector, where he worked diligently and devoutly to upgrade it and lure the young citizens be enrolled for the service of the homeland, in line with the policy of Kuwaitization. His efforts at this level extended to the realm of enhancing cooperation with the other member states of the GCC for sake of establishing a joint security system. One of the major challenges that faced His Highness was in 1990, when troops of the ousted Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein invaded and plundered Kuwait. HH Sheikh Nawaf, being minister of defense at the time, scrambled to pool national resources and able-bodied citizens to re-organize the military ranks, in preparation for the showdown to drive the aggressors out of the homeland. The past year, 2012, witnessed a long chain of activities by His Highness. On January 18, he inaugurated Beit Abdullah Hospice, on behalf of HH the Amir. In April, Sheikh Nawaf patronized annual graduation of the 41th batch of Kuwait University students for the academic year 2010-2011. Addressing the freshly-graduated students, Sheikh Nawaf urged them to view knowledge as a pillar of the religion of Islam and a path for moderation. In May, HH the Crown Prince attended a ceremony that marked the 30th anniversary of Zakat House.
