Kuwait - KUNA

Members of a government committee briefed the cabinet Monday about their fact-finding mission regarding "the legal and economic dimensions" of the huge compensation amount to be paid by Kuwait due to the termination of a contract between PIC and K-Dow Chemical company. The committee members briefed the cabinet members about the work they have accomplished vis-a-vis the termination of the contract between the Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC) and K-Dow Chemical, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak said in a statement. They said they concluded some recommendations which aimed at addressing the negative aspects resulted from the termination of the contract with the major objective of preserving the public interest and public fund. Sheikh Mohammad said the committee was about to complete its final report to be submitted to the cabinet. The government, he added, commended the "commitment and objectivity" of committee members. It said the final report should be finalized quickly in order to take necessary legal measures. Meanwhile, the members of the cabinet, chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, congratulated His Highness the Amir and His Highness the Crown Prince on the occasion of the birthday of Prophet Mohammad. They took note of letters to His Highness the Amir from South Sudan President Silva Kiir, President of Benin Thomas Boni Yahi, President of the Comoros Ikililou Dhoinine, and UN Deputy Secretary General Jan Eliasson who praised positive outcome of the 3rd Arab-African Summit that was held in Kuwait. The cabinet also took note of a letter to His Highness the Amir from UAE's Vice-President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashed Al-Maktoum on ways of cementing bilateral relations. The ministers reviewed a message sent from Hungarian President Janos Ader to His Highness the Amir regarding bilateral ties.
