Kuwait to host fifth meeting of GCC standing committee on meteorology and climate change

Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation is due to host tomorrow the fifth meeting of the GCC Standing Committee on Meteorology and Climate Change. Over a period of two days, the meeting of GCC climAl-Araby, Libyan FM discuss latest developments in Libya ate and aviation experts, will discuss, among other things, effects of dust storms on the climate in GCC states, implementing a memorandum of understanding on climate-related issues between GCC states and China, and the possibility of adopting a Kuwaiti proposal for the establishment of a unified GCC center for tracking weather changes in the region, KUNA quoted Director of Meteorology at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in Kuwait Muhammad Karam as saying in a statement. Furthermore, the meeting will also consider the establishment of a marine weather forecasting center in Qatar and a weather early warning center in Oman, said Karam, noting that the meeting will discuss the feasibility of linking weather radars in GCC states together with access to the committee's Web Site on the Internet. The meeting will discuss a Kuwaiti proposal on streamlining services offered by civil aviation's weather forecasting capabilities, and boosting cooperation between GCC states and the World Meteorological Organization, he said.
