Kuwait: UNHRC's session of high importance

The 18th session of United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), that will kick off on Monday and proceed till March 27, will be of high importance regarding the vital issues to be discussed, Kuwait's Permanent Delegate to the UN and International Organizations in Geneva Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghunaim said.
Al-Ghunaim said in remarks to KUNA on Sunday that Kuwait will be actively present in the UNHRC activities, especially reviewing the report of UN Human Rights Commissioner Zeid Ra Ibn Al Hussein.
Kuwait will present its comments on recently-endorsed amendments to a report on human rights violations in Syria and Palestine, besides a special report about human rights violations in Gaza Strip during the Israeli offensive in summer of 2014.
It will also support draft resolutions in favor of Palestine's cause and the Syrian people, besides Sudan which sought technical support from the UNHRC, as well as backing a possibility of issuing a resolution to support human rights in Libya.
Kuwait will offer its point of view regarding human right violations resulting from negative climatic changes, as well as means of protecting childrens' rights especially those exploited by armed group groups and during conflicts.
Qatar, which is currently chairing the session of Gulf Cooperation Council Higher Council, will talk on behalf of GCC countries on human rights cases in Yemen, while Bahrain, current chairman of the Arab Group, will address the country in the name of the Arab countries on the nation position toward human rights cases, discussed by the UNHRC.
Reports listed on the agenda of this session reached 100. The US Secretary of State and the Russian Foreign Minister will participate in the opening session.
UNHRC started its tasks in 2006, upon a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly, with membership of 47 countries, elected every three years.
The council decisions require approval of two thirds of the members, while none of the member countries has the right to veto, unlike the situation at the United Nations Security Council.
