
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the release o four Kuwaiti citizens held in Iran's Ahavaz area.
The ministry said it is closely following up the issue and coordinating with authorities concerned in order to ensure their release and safe return to their country, the Kuwaiti news agency KUNA reported.
Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs Sami Al Hamad said in a press release that upon instructions from First Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the Iranian Ambassador to Kuwait was summoned to deliver him a memo demanding access to the detained Kuwaiti citizens and their safe release.
He added that the Kuwaiti embassy in Tehran had contacted Iranian authorities to follow up on the arrest of the four Kuwaiti citizens and ask for allowing the Kuwaiti embassy to visit them.
He noted that the ministry would continue efforts through its embassy in Tehran and the Iranian embassy in Kuwait in order to ensure their release and safe return.
