Lakhdar Brahimi appeals to conflicting parties to allow aid convoys enter Homs

UN-Arab League envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi appealed to the conflicting parties in Syria Monday to allow humanitarian aid convoys enter the governorate of Homs, which has been under siege for over a year.There was no progress in the humanitarian file despite the Syrian government's approval to allow women and children leave the city, Brahimi said at his daily news conference following the fourth day of talks.He said the UN agencies tasked with delivering aid to besieged people inside Homs have not informed the UN that they have entered the city.Brahimi said the government and opposition should take into consideration the deteriorating humanitarian situation of many civilians in Homs, thus allowing entry of relief supplies.He hoped the siege would be lifted in order to alleviate the suffering of people in Homs.Brahimi urged the government and opposition delegations to respect the secrecy of the negotiations.He said the government delegation presented "a settlement document which consist of basic principles." He did not elaborate.
