Lakhdar Brahimi: No breakthrough in Syria peace talks

The UN-Arab League Special Representative for Syrian Lakhdar Brahimi said that no breakthrough has been achieved in Syria peace talks."We have not had any breakthrough, but we are still at it and this is good enough as far as I am concerned," Brahimi told reporters before announcing that he has cancelled Tuesday's second meeting between the two sides.During the first session, Brahimi noted that the opposition delegation has expressed readiness to implement Geneva I declaration, which was agreed to in June 2012. But the government delegation did not present its view on this issue, he said.The Geneva I Declaration calls for the establishment of a transitional government in Syria with full executive power to prepare for fair and free elections.With regard to the humanitarian situation in the besieged Homs, the UN-Arab mediator unveiled that there has been no movement today on getting aid to Homs. The convoy is ready and still waiting to enter," he said. "The authorization has not been given yet. We have not given up on that. I am afraid that is all I can say for the moment." He added that Washington and Moscow are doing all in power to help the talks prove successful.
