large turnout for Egyptian vote on constitution which is, however, marred by violence

At least eight people were killed and 21 injured in clashes between backers of the Muslim Brotherhood and the police and security forces on Tuesday in Egypt, as voters cast their ballots in a referendum on a new constitution, it was reported here today. In a statement, the Ministry of Health and Housing of Egypt said two died naturally while taking part in the voting process, another also passed away during the vote in Al-Jiza Province, but one was killed in Bani Swaif while four fatally kicked to death in Suhaj. Meanwhile, official statements by poll administers say that the voting saw a high-rate turnout. The voting centers were strictly guarded by the police and security officers. Results are expected on Saturday, organizers say.
