
Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov, who concluded a three-day visit to Kuwait on Thursday, arrived in Iraq later in the day on a day-long mission during which he would hold talks with Iraqi officials on regional issues. A source at the Iraqi Foreign Minister told KUNA Lavrov, who was welcomed upon arrival by Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, would hold talks with the minister on bilateral relations and mutual cooperation particularly in the military sector. The source added that Lavrov, who would meet other Iraqi leaders, plans in his mission to discuss with the local leaders various issues namely "the war on terrorism that has been threatening the region and the world." Russia is a main arms supplier to Iraq. Lavrov was earlier in Kuwait, where he had participated in the Third Ministerial Meeting for Strategic Dialogue between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and Russia from 17 to 19 February.
