Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stressed the need to resolve the Syrian crisis through dialogue. In a joint press conference with Ki-moon, Lavrov said that the Geneva Statement is the basis for the action of the international community, stressing that his country is committed to the unity and sovereignty of Syria. Describing as fruitful the talks with Ban Ki-moon, Lavrov said, "We are interested in developing the role of the United Nations and consolidating the efforts of all international forces, including the United Nations, to achieve security and stability in different regions." For his part, the UN chief affirmed the importance of resolving the Syrian crisis through dialogue and ending violence which all the Syrians are suffering from, the Syrian Arab News Agency reported.
