Lavrov: Moscow presents draft resolution on Syria to UNSC

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said here on Thursday his country had submitted a draft resolution on the humanitarian situation in Syria to the UN Security Council (UNSC). He told a joint news conference with his visiting Egyptian counterpart Nabil Fahmi that the Russian draft reflected Moscow's vision on the role which the UNSC should play to address the humanitarian situation in Syria. He added that his country had presented another draft resolution to the UNSC on the fight against terrorism in Syria in line with international law. On Russian-Egyptian relations, he said he and his Egyptian counterpart had exchanged views on international relations, including regional issues, saying that they had agreed to develop bilateral military and technological cooperation. Lavrov reiterated his country's support for peaceful solutions to all problems in the Middle East and North Africa. "We believe that all problems in the Middle East and North Africa should be solved exclusively by peaceful means, by inclusive dialogue and without the attempts to isolate anyone or impose anything from outside. All problems should be solved based on the mutual respect and the people's right to choose a form and methods of state government at their own." On his part, the Egyptian foreign minister voiced much satisfaction with the outcomes of Egyptian-Russian talks which focused on Syria and the Middle East. He expressed hope that the current talks would contribute to the promotion and development of dialogue between Cairo and Moscow in various fields.
