Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed Thursday, during a meeting with UN special envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura, his country's support for efforts to a cease-fire on the entire Syrian territory.
"Russia supports efforts aimed at implementing the UN Security Council Resolution 2254," Lavrov added. "We have been trying, together with our Iranian and Turkish counterparts, to help ensure the ceasefire between the government forces and the opposition units on most of the Syrian territory." "The Syrian constitution and elections under the supervision of the United Nations will be the focus of February 23 talks in Geneva," UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura said during his meeting with Lavrov.
He also stated that the delegates would start arriving in Geneva on February 20-23, and called on efforts to promote the political process on Syria to be stepped up.
