Lebanon fails again to elect a new president

The Lebanese Parliament failed once again Tuesday to elect a president following a lack of constitutionally required quorum.

Speaker Nabih Berri postponed the session to June 2.

MTV reported that the electoral session was marked by a low number of lawmakers. A total of 86 MPs are need for quorum to be met as the constitution stipulates the presence of two-third of the 128- parliament members.

The TV station added that discussions on the margins of the failed meeting focused on the weekend's municipal polls, rather than the presidential one.

Lebanon has been without a president since May 2014 when the term of former President Michel Suleiman ended without the election of a successor.

Ongoing disputes between the rival March 8 and 14 camps have thwarted the polls.
