4 soldiers were killed in an ambush staged by the leftist New People's Army (NPA) in southern Philippines on Sunday afternoon, a military official said on Monday. Lt. Col. Lyndon Paniza, spokesman of the Philippine Army's 10th Infantry Division, said the four soldiers were on board three motorcycles when they were attacked by 10 NPA rebels at around 5: 30 p.m. in Mapula village, Paquibato District in Davao City. He said the soldiers who were unarmed and were off-duty. They were on their way back to Mapula village in Paquibato District where they are involved in peace and development outreach programs at the time of the attack.
