Libya celebrates 'Day of Rage' that brought down Gadhafi

Libya marked the third anniversary Monday of its revolution against Moammar Gadhafi with clean streets in Tripoli, the capital, and hope for peace. Three years ago, anti-Gadhafi forces declared a "Day of Rage" that began a civil war in which Gadhafi was brought down and killed. The anniversary gives Libyans a time to reflect and celebrate a turning point in their country's history, Voice of America said Monday, noting clean streets and hundreds of revolutionary flags in Tripoli. Tripoli resident Abd Alroaf Mohamed noted the anniversary marks the end of tyrants and of humiliation, and "God willing, the country will now find peace." Last week, retired Gen. Khalifa Haftar, a hero of the uprising, declared a military coup on television, but political leaders, aware of the Libyan army's disarray, dismissed the threat and ordered Khalifa's arrest. Libyans will vote Thursday to elect an assembly to draft a new constitution, Voice of America noted.
