The Libyan security bersonnel, manning Musa'ed border crossing, opened fire at suspected illegal immigrants near Sallum border post in northwest Egypt, injuring seven Egyptians including three policemen on Sunday evening. Director of Matrouh Security Department Maj.-Gen. Al-Anani Hammouda received a note on the accident from the Sallum police. The seven injured persons were rushed to Sallum Hospital, Egypt's Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported, noting that none of them is in life-threatening condition. Initial reports show that a number of Egyptian textile merchants tried to cross into Libya illegally with a vehicle but they were intercepted by the Libyan border guards who set their vehicle ablaze. The row developed into gunfire when the Egyptian security men intervened.
