Libyan PM to ask Russia to help renew military might during visit

Libya plans to ask Russia to help rebuild its military might, Libyan Prime Minister Abdullah Thinni told Sputnik.

"We want Russia as a great government to aid in rebuilding stability and the military might of Libya," Thinni said on the eve of his official visit to Russia on April 14.

"This is the main reason for this visit," Thinni added.

The prime minister also said that the Libyan government was planning to implement a number of contracts signed between the Gaddafi regime and Russia in 2008.

"There are several contracts we would like to reactivate," he added.

On March 13, Libyan Army General Khalifa Haftar told Sputnik that Thinni's visit to Russia would concern arms deliveries to Libya.

Libya has been struggling with unrest in the country since long-standing leader Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown in 2011.

The internationally recognized country's government, based in the city of Tobruk, the Council of Deputies, faces rivalry from the self-proclaimed General National Congress in the capital Tripoli.
