
A local society for the disabled has called for stricter application of a law on disabilities adopted in 2010. Chairman of the Kuwaiti Society for the Parents of Handicapped Children Rehab Buresly, during a conference here on Tuesday, called for the application of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities act of 2010, which calls on the Public Authority for Special Needs Affairs to pay more attention to the suffering of the disabled community. She also underlined the importance of ensuring job opportunities for deaf and mute carriers of higher education certificates, who struggle to find a workplace due to their disability. For her part, Dr. Sadika Al-Awadi, Chairperson of Kuwait Down Syndrome Society indicated that Kuwait is the first among Arab countries to enact a law for the disabled, adding that Gulf states have used the Kuwaiti example to enact their own laws for the disabled.
