The Office of the Secretary for Security of Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) government Wednesday rebutted US report on the region's rating of human trafficking.
The office said in a statement that parts of the report's conclusion is "fabrication out of nothing" and its speculation is "unfounded."
Trafficking in Persons Report, released annually by the United States and analyzing efforts of over 180 countries and regions on anti-trafficking, kept Macao on its tier two watch list.
The office said the SAR government has made positive steps to combat human trafficking in the past year by setting up specialized committee, and issuing Law No. 6/2008 to crack down on related crimes.
The inter-departmental groups under the committee have achieved remarkable results in preventing and striking human trafficking crimes as well as cooperating with non-governmental organizations, according to the statement.
Macao authorities reiterated zero tolerance of any types of crime associated with trafficking in persons. Enditem
