The Malaysian cabinet has approved to establish a "friendly state and province" status between south China’s Guangdong province and the State of Malacca of Malaysia, according to latest local media reports.
Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was quoted as saying this friendly relation could stimulate economic development of the State of Malacca.
"We will see more development, more free trade zones, more tourism. Even (Malacca) airport may soon see itself upgraded to a real international airport," he said.
Media reviews said Malacca, which has historical links with China dating back to six centuries ago, is set to "rejuvenate its ties with China."
