Malaysian government establishes consultative committee

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said here Friday that a national consultative committee has been set up by the government to formulate an action plan to regulate the political funding and make it of integrity.

Najib said in a press conference that the establishment of the National Consultative Committee on Political Funding (JKNMPP) is necessary, as there was no regulation on political funding in the country for the moment, although there were some regulations on election expenses.

"It is hoped that this plan will boost confidence not only among political party members, but also to the people at large and the future generation," he said.

The prime minister said that an action plan will be formulated by the JKNMPP within one year, which will be implemented before the 14th General Election.

He said that the JKNMPP will be chaired by the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Paul Low, and Idris Jala, also Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, will be the deputy.

The JKNMPP would comprise members from the political parties, community leaders, academicians, thinkers, representatives of related government agencies, representatives of the private sector, representatives of civil society organizations and interested groups, including the younger generations, he said.
