A Malaysian soldier was shot and injured when he patrolled along the border with Thailand early Saturday, police said. Mohd Nashir Ya, senior police official in the northern Kedah state, was quoted as saying by the state news agency Bernama that the 26-year-old soldier was shot while mending a section of the border fence that had been cut open. The soldier was reportedly on a border patrol with a fellow to look out for smuggling when he noticed the broken fence. He was shot in the back after he finished mending the fence. The soldier was sent to a nearby hospital where he was reportedly in stable condition. Police say they are currently investigating the case.
