California authorities said they detained a restaurant patron early Wednesday in the slayings of a woman and her two children the previous day. The unidentified individual was questioned by Sacramento County sheriff's detectives after he was picked up at a Denny's in Rocklin at 2 a.m. PDT while in possession of a van reported missing from the crime scene in nearby Rancho Cordova. The man was not immediately charged in the slayings, which left a woman in her 20s and her two children, ages 2 and 3, dead in what had been described by deputies as a bloody and violent assault. The Sacramento Bee said a 6-month-old boy was found unharmed in his crib. The victim's husband discovered the slayings Tuesday afternoon and was not considered a suspect.
