Caretaker President Moncef Marzouki was informed of the difficulties encountered by the Independent Broadcasting Authority (HAICA) as he received on Wednesday, at Carthage Palace, HAICA members Raja Chaouachi and Habib Belaid. Marzouki stressed the importance of regulating authorities and their role in the success of transition and the establishment of democracy in Tunisia. The President of the Republic considered the authorities tasked with the media, justice and elections "democratic and transparent," according to a Presidency press release. HAICA Vice-President Raja Chaouachi emphasised the important regulating role played by this authority in establishing abuses and professional wrongdoing through an inclusive vision involving all sides. The aim is to guarantee citizens' right to a professional, pluralistic, free and fair press, the press release added.
