Several thousands of citizens took part in May Day protest march in the rain here on Sunday, calling for the preservation of workers' rights.
Several trade unions, which organized the protest, said workers' rights were threatened in Croatia, calling for a general strike fighting against poverty.
Workers should be placed before profit, the trade union representatives said, adding the workers should have adequate salaries and pensions, as well as more jobs for young people.
They warned that the country was on the verge of poverty.
Croatia's total unemployment rate in 2015 was 16.3 percent, for young people aged between 15 and 24 it reached 43 percent, while in the EU average unemployment rate for young people at the same ages was 22.4 percent, according to Eurostat report released last week.
