Two members of the Mediation Committee, namely Prof. Abderrazek Kilani and Judge Mokhtar Yahyaoui, Wednesday presented President Moncef Marzouki with the authority's first report. At the end of the meeting with Caretaker President, Kilani said the political differences regarding the dissolution of the National Constituent Assembly (NCA) are the major obstacle to solving the current crisis. This had prompted the Mediation Committee to suggest the promulgation of a piece of legislation which sets a deadline for the NCA works and defines the Assembly's initial mission which, he emphasised, consists in drafting the constitution, promulgating an electoral code and deciding on election date. The Meditation Committee presented political stakeholders with possible dates for the organisation of elections, he also pointed up. The nature of the cabinet to be formed is an additional point of contention, Kilani underscored. To this end, he said, the Meditation Committee had suggested a solution which reconciles the positions of the Government and the Opposition. The Mediation Committee advocates a national unity government as the only way out of the current political crisis, Kilani highligted. This cabinet will allow for two vice presidents tasked with security and economy respectively to assist the President of the Republic, he specified. Besides, the Mediation Committee proposed that the NCA entrust the interim Prime Minister with promulgating economic and social decree-laws.
