Medvedev : I hope peace will arrive in Libya

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Thursday that he hoped peace would eventually arrive in Libya as former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has been confirmed dead by the ruling National Transitional Council (NTC). "All those who represent this country, various representatives of Libyan tribes, will be able to reach a final agreement on a configuration of power, and Libya will turn in a modern political country," Medvedev was quoted by Itar-Tass news agency as saying at a joint press conference with Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte in Moscow. "Otherwise, all the efforts taken recently are senseless," said Medvedev. Mahmoud Jibril, head of the NTC's executive committee, confirmed Thursday that Gaddafi was killed in gun battle in his hometown Sirte. Jibril made the confirmation at a televised news conference held in Tripoli. He also told reporters that the NTC would announce the liberation of the entire Libya on Thursday night or Friday.
