Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel condemned on Saturday the Russian and Chinese reaction towards purported attack with chemical weapons by Syrian government forces, which killed 1,300 people on Damascus' outskirts. The Chancellor, who is the leader of the Christian Democratic Union, called for an immediate investigation into the Wednesday incident, adding that she regretted that the UN Security Council could not give its inspectors the green light to conduct thorough investigation at the areas that were struck with the chemical weapons, due to Moscow and Beijing's refusal to vote for a UN resolution regarding the matter. Merkel said the reports on the Syrian Opposition accusing the government of killing Syrians using chemical weapons were shocking, demanding the truth to be revealed
