German Chancellor Angela will meet the US President Donald Trump at the White House on Friday for talks on the relationship between the United States and Germany and to discuss the European Union as a partner in trade, security and core values, according to the German government.
Merkel will also to discuss a number of foreign policy issues involving the situations in Syria, Ukraine, North Korea and the Middle East peace process along with the fight against terrorism and policy toward refugees, the German News Agency (DPA) reported. Her visit was scheduled for Tuesday but had to be postponed due to a snowstorm.
Ahead of Friday's talks, Merkel told a German newspaper she was looking forward to her first meeting with President Trump. "It's always better to talk with each other than about each other," she told Saarbruecker Zeitung.
Merkel is accompanied by top executives from German companies Siemens, Schaeffer and car giant BMW.
