Mexico probes tweet possibly showing kingpin 'El Chapo'

Mexican authorities are probing an alleged tweet from the son of fugitive druglord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman that features a photo apparently showing him with his father in Costa Rica.

The tweet was posted August 31 from the account @AlfreditoGuzman, an official with the attorney general's office said Tuesday.

The text with the photo is in somewhat garbled Spanish that would translate roughly as "it is August here and you know who I am seen with."

In the photo, it appears the son of Guzman is eating at a table outdoors with two other men.

The face of a man with a mustache, who looks like 58-year-old Joaquin Guzman, head of the Sinaloa drug cartel, is only partially visible.

Part of the face of the man who might be Guzman is blocked out intentionally.

The geolocator tag on the tweet places it as originating in Costa Rica.

Guzman was arrested in February 2014 and at the time was considered the world's most powerful drug lord.

But he escaped from a maximum security prison in Mexico in July by crawling through a hole in the shower area of his cell into a tunnel that took him to freedom.

In 2001, he had also managed a jailbreak from a maximum security prison.

Four people -- two prison workers and two intelligence service employees -- have been charged over their alleged role in helping him escape.

The government is now offering a $3.8 million reward for information leading to his capture. His escape was a howling embarrassment for the government of President Enrique Pena Nieto.
