Michelle Bachelet officially declared as president-election

The Chilean Electoral Court on Friday announced the country's opposition candidate Michelle Bachelet had won Chile's runoff presidential election in December and declared her as the president-elect. Bachelet will be sworn in as the Chilean president on March 11 to succeed Sebastian Pinera, the incumbent one. Bachelet won the election held on Dec. 15 with 62.17 percent of the vote, defeating Evelyn Matthei, the official candidate, who only garnered 37.83 percent of the vote, said the court at a specially organized ceremony at its headquarters. "This is a very special day for me and for many people. I want to thank the majority support that you gave me to be, beginning from March 11, the President of all the Chileans," said Bachelet after the official affirmation of her victory, who added she has already begun "working hard to design the government's projects and to define the best names (for the cabinet) so we can begin with strength and dynamism on March 11."
