Ahmad Tibi, a Palestinian member of Israel's Knesset, on Thursday visited Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti in Hadarim prison. Tibi also visited Karim Younis, the longest-serving Palestinian prisoner who has been jailed since 1983, the minister's office said in a statement. Barghouti praised popular support for prisoners on hunger strike and President Mahmoud Abbas for standing by detainees. He also welcomed renewed efforts toward national reconciliation, Tibi said. Meanwhile, Younis called on Israel's prison administration to allow more family visits. Tibi is expected to meet Israeli President Shimon Peres to discuss prisoners' issues, his office said.
