
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has received Houlin Zhao, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, ITU, based in Geneva.
During the meeting, which was held in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, the two sides discussed ITU's role in establishing the rules of cooperation and coordination between telecommunications authorities in member states in light of the rapid technological developments in the telecommunications sector and efforts to use these technologies to serve humanity and connect people.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid stressed the important role that communications play in human and economic development and the importance of mobilising available technologies to develop the sector in order to keep track of the demographic, economic and cultural variables of people living all around the world.
The ITU Secretary-General praised the UAE's telecommunications sector, saying that the technology, hardware and equipment it uses surpasses those in many other countries, making it the destination of choice for investors and international companies seeking a high-level and integrated infrastructure, with the two most vital sectors being communication and transportation.
