Moldovan president meets senior Chinese legislator on bilateral relations

Visiting Senior Chinese legislator Qiangba Puncog on Friday met with Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti, with both sides vowing to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.

Qiangba Puncog, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, arrived in Chisinau on Thursday at the invitation of the Moldovan parliament.

The senior legislator highly appreciated the current state of the bilateral relations between the two countries and the consistent support of Moldova to issues concerning China's core interests. He expressed China's willingness to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields by jointly building the Silk Road economic zone.

President Timofti said that Moldova attaches importance to China's status on world stage, supports the Silk Road economic belt initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and is willing to strengthen bilateral cooperation in politics, economy, trade, culture and other areas within this framework.

Also on Friday, Qiangba Puncog also met with Moldovan Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu, Deputy Speaker Vladimir Vitiuc and representatives of other parliamentary parties, during which they agreed to further develop legislative exchanges and deepen cooperation in various fields between the two countries.
