Egyptian President Mohammed Mursi said here Wednesday evening his country cannot wink at any aggression on the Palestinian people. Addressing a religious ceremony in Cairo, Mursi said: "We cannot accept that the Palestinians come under aggression or siege." He said his country supports the people of Palestine and provides them with such needs as food and medicine. Post-revolution Egypt respects international treaties and conventions, but it would not condone any attack on the Palestinians, the Egyptian leader insisted, considering the Palestinians issue "pivotal" for Egypt. On Syria, Mursi reiterated his country's call on the Syrian regime to halt bloodshed, especially during Eid Al-Adha, as an initial step towards a permanent ceasefire. Regarding Syria as "another lung" for Egypt, he said Egypt and Syria have historical relations.
