President Mohamed Morsi greeted on Friday the Armed Forces on the anniversary of the restoration of Taba city in Sinai from Israel in March 1989. After performing the Friday prayers at the Military Central Zone in Cairo's Abbassiya district, Morsi commended the "patriotic role" played by the Armed Forces in securing Egypt's borders and vital facilities and restoring peace and security in the Suez Canal cities. All Egyptians are well aware of the army's role and its immense national duties in defending the homeland against the enemies, Morsi said. The liberation of Sinai was completed in 1988 when the Egyptian flag was hoisted in Taba, the last portion of Sinai to be liberated from Israeli occupation after the 1973 October War victory.
