President Mohamed Morsi will receive on Sunday High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Catherine Ashton during her visit to Egypt. Ashton will meet a number of Egyptian opposition figures, including Mohamed ELBaradei, chairman of Al-Dostour Party, Hamdeen Sabahi, leader of the Popular Current and el-Sayyed el-Badawi, Al-Wafd Party leader, a diplomatic source at the European Union's embassy said on Saturday. The source added that Ashton will also confer with Ahmed Saeed, Free Egyptians Party leader, Mohamed Abul Ghar, Egyptian Social Democratic Party leader and Amr Moussa, leader of the Conference Party. Ashton's visit is part of EU's continuous efforts to support the democratic and economic transition in Egypt, the source said. In press statements, Ashton said that her visit comes in a critical stage in Egypt's democratic transition. She pointed out that Egypt faces major economic and political challenges, asserting that Europe has to support Egypt in its move towards a deep and comprehensive democracy.
