The Moscow election commission has accepted the documents from Opposition activist, Left Front coordinator Sergei Udaltsov, who is running for Moscow mayor. However, it is not clear if he will be able to participate, his lawyer Nikolai Polozov told Itar-Tass on Tuesday. Polozov said he had handed over the documents earlier in the day. "Today, the Moscow election commission accepted Udaltsov's documents for registration as a candidate in the city mayoral election through his lawyer," he said. A complete package of documents has been submitted to the commission, along with the investigator's refusal to let him present these documents in person. At the same time, Polozov said it was a big question if his client would be able to participate in the election. Udaltsov has less than a day to open a settlement account and gather all the signatures /necessary for official registration as a candidate/. "Udaltsov is realistic person and understands that it is practically impossible to complete all the candidate's procedures, as he has less than 24 hours; but we'll be doing our best to make it," the lawyer said. Earlier, the Moscow election commission refused to accept Udalstov's documents insisting that he submit them in person. Polozov said the law does not explain how a person who is under house arrest can submit documents as a candidate in the election. "It's a serious oversight and we'll be using all the possible levers, to as far as asking the Constitutional Court for clarification," he said.
