Moscow: No secret talks on Assad's fate

Russia said on Monday it has not held any secret talks on the fate of Syrian President Bashar Assad, according to Sputnik news agency.

The denial was made by presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov who dismissed such media reports as tendentious.

At the level of the president and the foreign minister, Moscow has reiterated several times it did not work on this matter, said Peskov.

The fate of Syria should be determined by the Syrian people, he said.

This has been made clear by Moscow, he said.

Russia supports the Assad regime and reject growing pressure by the West and regional powers to overthrow it. Over 250,000 people have been killed in the Syrian war which also displaced nearly half of Syria’s pre-war population of 23 million. About four million of them are refugees in neighboring countries.
