
Representatives Council's Human Rights Committee's Chairman MP Ahmad Al-Saati and a number of MPs, today in Manama, held a meeting with the Bahraini-European Union Friendship Committee under the chairmanship of Head of the EU Delegation Ambassador Adam Colakh and the Managing Director of the European External Action Service for North Africa, Middle East, Arabian Peninsula, Iran and Iraq, Hugues Mingarelli. The meeting discussed the latest developments at the local, regional and international levels, means of strengthening bilateral cooperation relations between the Council of Representatives and the EU, and exchanging of views on local and international political affairs. Political developments in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the importance of EU support for the reforms in Bahrain were also discussed. The Bahraini side noted the role of the legislative branch in urging the executive branch to establish a number of bodies that have had a substantial impact on promoting human rights in Bahrain, including the Ombudsman Office at the Interior Ministry, Commission for the Rights of Prisoners and Detainees, Special Investigation Unit at the Public Prosecution and the National Institution for Human Rights. MP Al-Saati reviewed the latest development in regard to the national consensus dialogue and efforts have been exerted to make it successful. The MPs comprehensively answered all inquiries raised by the EU delegation, who in their turns thanked the House of Representatives for the warm reception and the efforts exerted in the development of democracy in the Kingdom and promoting the national consensus dialogue. The EU delegation asserted their support for the royal reforms, noting Bahrain stands as a regional democratic model that earns backing. The EU delegation offered holding training workshops on human rights culture for the MPs and those interested in this field. MP Abdulrahman Rashid Bu-Majeed, MP Hassan Eid Bu-Khamas, MP Sheikh Jawad Bu-Hussain and MP Abdulhameed Al-Meer also attended the meeting.
